Why Italian Fabric?

For SORVEL, fabric came first.

Before colors, hardware, or finishing details, we wanted to understand how the fabric would feel on the body, how it would hold its shape, and how it would wear beyond a single season.

That search led us to Italy.

For our first collection, we chose fabrics from Carvico, an Italian textile mill with decades of experience developing technical fabrics for swimwear. Their fabrics offered what we were looking for: a soft hand feel, beautiful stretch and recovery, and the structure needed to create a close, flattering fit without feeling heavy.

The difference is something you can feel.

Swimwear spends its life exposed to water, sun, movement, and repeated wear. The fabric has to do more than look beautiful. It needs to move comfortably, recover its shape, and support the construction of the garment itself.

For Collection No. 001, that foundation matters.

We’re taking our time with the first collection—testing fit, refining construction, and choosing materials based on how they actually perform rather than how quickly we can bring a product to market.

Italian fabric is one of those choices.

Not because of where it comes from alone.

Because of how it feels, how it performs, and what it allows us to create.
