Mae 001

Mae was one of the first pieces we started working on for SORVEL.

And she didn’t arrive fully formed.

The idea was simple: create a triangle bikini that felt feminine and familiar, but more refined in its proportions. We wanted the ease of a classic triangle without ties, bows, or details that distracted from the shape itself.

The first versions got us close.

But close wasn’t enough.

We kept coming back to the cups. The proportions needed to feel longer and more sculpted, without becoming overly structured. The outer edge needed a better line. The straps needed to feel delicate while still doing their job.

Then there was the hardware.

We explored different ways of connecting the straps to the cups, including options that would have been much easier to source. Some worked technically. They just didn’t look right.

So we kept looking.

The bottom went through the same process. We wanted a higher leg and cheekier coverage, but there’s a very fine line between flattering and simply removing fabric. The front curve, rise, and placement on the hip all had to work together.

Each revision brought Mae a little closer.

What we ended up with is still recognizably a triangle bikini. That was never something we wanted to reinvent simply for the sake of saying we had.

We wanted to make our version of a really good one.

Clean. Feminine. Easy to wear. And refined through the details you may not notice until you put it on.

Mae is 001 for a reason.

She was one of the pieces that taught us what SORVEL was going to be.
